Kasey Arnold...Cold Fever

At first, I was not into this movie. I did not understand it. It was Japanese and weird. But as we moved from Japan to Iceland, as we saw the struggle of the main character with the outside world, the movie became enchanting. Especially when it applied to the requirements that Dr. Redick read, the movie was very deep. I like these type of movies that make you think, that everything thing is a symbol, the director has thought of every moment. Even when he is in the bus with all the Icelanders, he is turned a different direction. He can not accept the culture. There is several times when there is a Divine intervention. It was a coincidence that the woman found him and told him there was a connection between him and her. She gave him a car. Also, finding the man who would take him to where he needs to go was also a chance. But when he was helped out by the girl to make his car work again, that was divine. No one knows how that happened. Also, when he finds the house out in the middle of the Icelandic wasteland, it was destiny.
My favorite symbol in the entire film was the end. The entire wilderness that we have seen is desolate and frozen. But when he reaches the river, the mood becomes one of promise and life. The river represents life; it is a powerful image when it is surrounded by the death of winter. When he pours the wine into the river, it is like he is allowing his parents to now live on forever. It is extremely powerful.
