Landscapes of the Sacred 37
When a landscape is considered sacred, there is reason as to why it is sacred: a narrative is derived from the discovery of the place. It is the whole idea of how a place is glorified through an unexplainable sense or the imagination. To fully describe a place and give it the credit it deserves, often time poetry, ornate language and other devices will be used. This enables the place to come alive once again. In these descriptions and words, a story is formed. It is required for the “myth and terra firma [to] intersect” (37). If not, then this sacred place will no longer exist. The stories are necessary for it to be sacred.
