This was the best class I think I have ever attended. I loved this class because it was hands on, but so educational. I learned so much about the Jewish culture and came to respect many of their traditions. Having the girl in our class read the Jewish prayers and then for us to partake in the ritual itself was a moving experience. It is the ideal of the mantra that the ordinary becomes the extraordinary through ritual. This may be one of the most extravagant rituals I have attended where we make little things so important. An example is dipping our parsley into the salt water. The salt water represents the tears. That is powerful. This is the feast of the Unleavened Bread. The Matzo is a very important part to the ceremony; it represents the last meal the Israelites had before leaving Egypt.
I am a Christian, but I still loved this ritual. Jesus was a Jew and partook in something very similar to what we just did. That is exciting. I have a new found respect for their beliefs, for their rituals, and ideals.
