Kasey Arnold....The Rolling Hills of Tennessee

In Franklin, TN, where I was born and raised for 18 years of my life, the hills are beautiful. They make the area into these glorious valleys that are inviting, refreshing and pastoral. I don’t know if it’s because it is home, or if it’s the hills, but something, something about the area makes my heart at ease. I feel like I view everything brighter, my senses are more alert, and a greater sense of optimism becomes my point of view. Now, I am not saying that I am not like that in Newport News, but there is something about being home. It helps when your home happens to be beautiful.
We went out to the country of Franklin one day. It’s horse territory. It’s very invigorating to be out of the hustle and bustle of the city and go to where nature consumes the area. There is no power lines, no houses. Just grass, trees, the sky, birds, horses. It’s beautiful. It’s home.
I feel like I am like Maria from The Sound of Music. She goes up to the hills as an escape: it’s where she feels at peace. She feels God’s presence surrounding her. It is safe. When enveloped in the hills of Williamson County, I am like Maria. I feel as though the hills are alive. It’s a powerful feeling of knowing there is security in these hills.
