Landscapes of the Sacred (pg 41)
The Landscapes of the Sacred describes time in two different ways. One of them is chronos which is percieved as the repetitive actual time second for second, and kairos which is "an unrepeatable moment with events of great signifcance are gatheredd in the life of an individual." When I really stop and think about time its crazy how much it seems like I have taken everything I have done thus far for granted. Looking back on every day that I have been alive I experience kairos time. I see everything that was unrepeatable and once in a life time. This includes all of my mistakes, experiences, and moments that I'll never be able to experience again. In day to day life sitting in a class waiting for that clock to hit a certain time it is then that I experience chronos. Chronos time almost seems like it stinks all the time. Its as if those seconds are either too long because you are anxious and wanting to do something else or they are too short and the time flies. Living day to day we think of time as chronos, but have you ever thought what the quality of life would be like if we always thought of life as karios? I think if we consciously kept reminding ourselves how each second is a second we can never get back and a moment that you lose forever we would strive to make the most of life. So instead of sitting in a boring class watching the time you could be embracing it thinking "this is one part of my college experience that will forever be remembered and shape they way I turn out." This is just a thought...I don't actually expect anyone to say that, but still have you ever though how much fuller you could live your life to just by thinking about time in a different way?
