Jeep Cherokee As Sacred Place - Zach Brackett
Whenever I am in my car I am always listening to music, if you see me at a stop light I will most likely be singing at the top of my lungs, playing air guitar, or playing drums on my steering wheel. For one week though a friend of mine (who also always listens to music) decided to not listen to music when we were driving our cars from place to place. As you can imagine for someone who is enthralled with music this was not the easiest thing to do. As the week went by though I found that as I drove I began to talk to God and my car became somewhat of a sanctuary where God and I talked and communicated. In "Landscapes of the Sacred" it is stated that "in actual fact, the place is never 'chosen' by man says Eliade. It is merely discovered by him; in other words, the sacred place in some way or another reveals itself to him." Though I did not choose my Jeep to be a sacred place as I cut out the distractions which usually hindered me from experiencing God it became a sacred place, not because of my choosing but because of God's ordination.
