Wild At Heart - Zach Brackett

In another book by John Eldredge entitled "Wild At Heart" John compares the male heart to the wilderness in the opening pages of the book. As you read he speaks of how he is in the Sawatch Range of Central Colorado hiking and has seen the tracks of a bull elk, he then goes in to the history of these amazing animals. The author speaks of how these bull elk used to rule the land until westward expansion started and pushed these creatures into hiding in the Rocky Mountains. The author goes on and relates this wilderness occurrence to how society has pushed males, who are "Wild at Heart", into the Rockies so to speak in the sense that it has tried to push back the wild as it has sought to expand. As society has expanded it has began to "emasculate" males as it forces them to be "socially acceptable" and sit in their cubicles without causing any trouble. As the author writes he compares the male to the wilderness which is free, dangerous, heroic, frightening, soothing, and loving all in one. Is it true that society has "forced males to the Rockies" so to speak as it has sought to expand and grow? Does society try to take the wild out of men? Does society attempt to calm males down when we were created to be adventurous?
